During an interview with Steve Muehlhausen of Sporting News at the C2E2 convention in Chicago, Illinois, WWE Hall OF Famer explained why he feels WWE Superstars “far outshine the stars in UFC” when it comes to worldwide popularity.

Lawler made these comments when talking about UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey appearing at his company’s WrestleMania 31 pay-per-view event at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California last month.

“I think a lot of people would look at that as saying, oh here’s a big star from the UFC coming into the WWE world,” said Lawler, who is probably best known to non-wrestling fans as the wrestler that bitch-smacked comedian and actor Andy Kaufman during an infamous appearance on the David Letterman show. “In the grand scheme of things, the stars in the WWE far outshine the stars in the UFC worldwide and in popularity.”

Lawler continued, “It’s always a great marriage so to speak. When you can get the rub off of each other. It’s like cross-promotion. It’s good for everybody involved. And to see Ronda Rousey in a WWE ring and I know for me because I’m a big fan of her, it was exciting, it was fun and it caused a bit of talk which is exactly what it was designed to do.”
