As The Bold Type‘s Jane Sloan once said, “Life can change in a flash, so what are we waiting for?” Katie Stevens followed her on-screen character’s advice over the weekend, ticking off a major life milestone when she married her long-term boyfriend, Paul DiGiovanni.

As confirmed exclusively by People, after almost six years of dating, the actress and the Boys Like Girls guitarist and music producer tied the knot in front of 250 family and friends just outside Nashville, Tennessee.

Choosing a long lace gown featuring a low back with button detailing by Israeli bridal designer, Flora, and jewels by L’Dezen to walk down the aisle in, Stevens selected her dress with her now-husband in mind. “I really did keep Paul in mind when I was choosing my dress,” she told the publication. “He’s seen me in so many red carpet looks and gowns and everything in-between, but I wanted to look like the girl he’s in love with [on our wedding day].”

Stevens topped her ultra-delicate bridal look off with a tribute to her late grandfather by wearing her mother’s veil. “My grandfather stepped on my mom’s veil at her wedding, and since he is no longer with us I wanted to keep that as a little memento to him!”, she said, adding that she also wore her great-grandmother’s crown.

As for DiGiovanni, the actress wanted to make sure her groom’s outfit had an equally special feel, adding a touch of familial sentimentality of his own hidden inside his custom suit.

“Paul’s mom passed away when he was 15, so I just wanted him to feel like she was with us,” Stevens explained. “His aunt gave me a piece of his mum’s wedding dress, and I had it sewn into Paul’s jacket on the inside and covered with a patch.” We’re pretty sure we just heard a collective “aww” exclaimed the world over.

Letting the cute times roll, the actress and American Idol alum, walked down the aisle singing to DiGiovanni with the help of her Bold Type co-star Meghann Fahy (AKA Sutton Brady) and close friend, Betty Who (the singer behind the Queer Eye intro sequence).

The bride and groom then recited personally penned vows in front of their nearest and dearest—which included Fahy and their fellow co-stars, and Sarah Hyland and fiancé Wells Adams—and said “I do” before heading to their reception where they shared their first dance to Ben Rector’s I Will Always Be Yours.

If Instagram, and our expert sleuthing, is anything to go by, it looks as though Stevens and DiGiovanni got engaged in February last year, his proposal story setting the bar high for boyfriends everywhere.

As reported by Us Weekly, the musician gave his bride her engagement ring three years prior in a stack of envelopes when the two were in a long-distance relationship. “He wrote like, ‘Open when you’re on the plane to see me,’ ‘Open when [you] wake up early,’ ‘Open when you miss me,’ and one letter said, ‘Do not open until I say so. Important,’” she said in an interview in June last year. “I had it in my nightstand table for three years… and he stole it out of my nightstand, brought it to Switzerland, and I opened it, and it said, ‘Katie, marry me?’”

And while they began dating five-and-a-half years ago, as Stevens confirmed to People—while also declaring that “after dating for a couple months, I knew [he was going to be] my husband,”—she had actually first laid eyes on him many years previously at a Boys Like Girls concert as a teenager.

“I actually was in attendance at one of his shows when I was 14 years old,” she said, according to Us Weekly. “It’s not weird though because we didn’t meet then. We met seven years later.”

Join us again for another “aww” as we congratulate the happy couple!
