WWE Rejects Future Wrestlemania & SummerSlam in Massachusetts

WWE’s four biggest shows of the year are undoubtedly the Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam, and Survivor Series shows. We know that Wrestlemania will be returning to New Orleans next year, while Survivor Series takes place in Houston, Texas later this fall. Also, the Royal Rumble will emanate from Philadelphia in 2018, and SummerSlam will take place in Brooklyn for the third (and currently the final) year in a row. We may not be able to see where WWE is planning to bring any of these humongous shows next, however, we do have an idea of some of the famous and historic cities that WWE has decided to turn down offers from.
On the latest edition of the Danny Picard Show, SI’s Justin Barrasso reported that WWE has officially declined offers to host their biggest shows in a few different cities recently. WWE has decided that they will not be hosting a future Wrestlemania from the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The stadium can hold over 60,000 people and no Wrestlemania event has ever been held there before. The stadium is home to the New England Patriots. WWE has also apparently rejected to hold a future SummerSlam event at the famous Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. However, WWE hasn’t ruled out a future Fenway shows completely.
Barrasso also noted that while WWE won’t be holding SummerSlam in the famous baseball park, they might be looking into holding a future NXT event there. It was not specified whether this would mean a future NXT Takeover show, or just a simple live event the next time that they visit the area. The ballpark can hold close to 40,000 fans, and it would be unique as WWE doesn’t typically hold events from baseball parks. Fenway Park is a historic American landmark that has been operational for over a century, and NXT could be taking over there very soon. A SummerSlam bid though was officially rejected by WWE.
