Brighton boss Graham Potter thinks victory over West Ham ‘was there for us’ as they drew 2-2 at the London Stadium.

The Seagulls took the lead in the 44th-minute as forward Neal Maupay reacted first in the box.

West Ham were poor in the first half and were thankful that Brighton didn’t capitalise on their possession.

David Moyes’ men improved slightly in the second half. Substitutes Manuel Lanzini and Andriy Yarmolenko provided more positivity going forward.

Yarmolenko was involved in the Hammers’ equaliser, putting in a cross which eventually found its way to youngster Ben Johnson.

The 20-year-old fired the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Brighton took the lead once again in the 70th-minute through Lewis Dunk.

The defender gained a lucky rebound in the box and hit the ball into the roof of the net.

Tomas Soucek made it 2-2 in the 82nd-minute by scoring his fourth league goal of the campaign.

Speaking after the match, Potter told reporters: “It is disappointing not to take three points, I felt it was there for us. We didn’t defend the corner well for the second goal and those details punish you at this level.

“That’s on us, we have to be better. But overall I felt comfortable in the game.

“We didn’t do much wrong, we could have managed the game better. I don’t celebrate goals now until everything has been checked – you never know any more.

“We need to keep working to get three points. Tariq Lamptey won’t be available for the next few games either.”

The draw leaves Potter and Brighton on 13 points after 15 matches in the Premier League. They need to start picking up victories if they want to move away from the relegation zone.

West Ham, meanwhile, continued their poor run against Brighton with a sluggish first half performance. They’ve now reached 22 points and are tenth in the league.
