West Ham United have entered the race to sign Hibernian left-back Josh Doig, who has been compared with Arsenal star and compatriot Kieran Tierney.

This is according to The Athletic who say that the Irons are eyeing up a move for Doig, who is also attracting interest from Premier League new boys Watford and Championship side Nottingham Forest.

The Scottish Sun had linked the defender with the likes of Celtic, Manchester City, and Leeds United in the past, also suggesting that he could be available for as little as £1.5 million.

Labelled ‘Tierney 2.o’ by Football Fancast, many in Scotland rate the Hibs man very highly, expecting the 19-year-old to follow in the footsteps of Andy Robertson and Tierney by moving to an English club.

Former Sky Sports pundit and Celtic legend Charlie Nicholas has waxed lyrical about Doig’s potential, saying: “If I was Ange Postecoglou I would be trying to sign Josh Doig because he could become the next Kieran Tierney.

“I think Doig has great potential and could flourish into a real Tierney type. If it was to take £3m or £4m, then why not pay it? He would have a future sell-on and is one of the best young players in the country.”

The defender made 24 league appearances for Hibs last term and was nominated for the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Season, which went to Celtic’s David Turnbull.

Also, the Hammers are the “main candidates” to sign Genk’s 35-goal striker Paul Onuachu, according to reports.

The striker made the move to Europe in 2012 as he joined Danish outfit FC Midtjylland. He was a bit-part player during his first few years at the club, but he shone between 2016 and 2019.

Onuachu netted 62 goals from his 116 outings for them during this three-season spell. This form led to his move to Belgian outfit Genk ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 27-year-old has been on fire for Genk of late. He netted ten times in his debut season and he followed this up with 35 goals in 41 outings in 2020/21.

West Ham are in the market for a new striker and Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur (as per Sport Witness) have reported that Onuachu is on their radar.

They suggest that Genk are after a fee that would blow their record sale “off the table”. They add that West Ham are the “main candidates” currently, but talks are “not yet over” for the striker.
