Is there anything more thrilling than preparing for a European summer holiday? Correct us if we’re wrong, but there’s nothing more exciting than pulling together our most effortless, chic and summer-appropriate attire and then jetting off for a few sun-soaked weeks in a picturesque place like Greece, Italy or Portugal. In fact, the allure of the European summer is so strong that luxury retailer Matchesfashion.com created an entire resort activation around this very notion.

Nicknamed the Italian Grand Tour, the series of events were a collaborative effort between Matchesfashion.com’s buying director Natalie Kingham and the CEO and creative director of Pellicano Hotel Group, Marie-Louise Sció. They included a week-long travelling pop-up on board a luxury 1930s yacht, with several stops at Pellicano’s three hotels along the Tyrrhenian coast of Italy. Mooring at the iconic Hotel Il Pellicano in Porto Ercole and La Posta Vecchia in Ladispoli, the tour concluded at the newly opened Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa on the island of Ischia (a place familiar to fans of the Elena Ferrante Neapolitan novels).

With trunks full of enviable Matchesfashion.com stock in tow, the Italian tour was capped off by a Missoni pop-up, curated by Margherita Missoni (above) to launch her capsule collection with Matchesfashion.com, and a decadent cocktail party last Saturday at the latest Pellicano property, Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa.

The edit featured collections from a roster of our favourite go-to vacation designers, such as Emilia Wickstead, Dodo Bar Or, Loretta Caponi, Alvaro x Kim Hersov, M Missoni, Zimmermann and Birkenstock, all hand-selected by Natalie Kingham and stylist Robert Rabensteiner. “Travel is a passion of mine and we have developed a very significant vacation business over the past eight years,” explains Kingham of the decision to host such an glamorous (and elaborate) tour of Italy. “I am delighted to be partnering with Pellicano Hotels and Marie Louise – [both] are the epitome of Italian elegance.”

Certainly, the decision to collaborate with the ever-chic Marie-Louise Sció (above) was a match made in fashion heaven. Sció’s personal style is a natural fit for the retailer’s edit of resortwear, and the pop-ups were perfectly timed to fit in with the advent of the European summer (warning: your Instagram feed is about to get unbearable for the next three months). “For me, style is about longevity. It’s the same way I approach my hotels. I don’t want to be the ‘hot hotel’; I want us to be here in 20 years’ time, and it’s how you could say we both feel about style,” Sció tells Matchesfashion.com (read her full interview with Robert Rabensteiner here).

“It’s been my dream to do a pop up on a boat,” adds Sció. “When all the stars align! When I spoke to Matchesfashion.com and Natalie about the vacation edit, we’d signed our third hotel, and it made so much sense to partner on this project.” We couldn’t have imagined a more fitting summer fashion location ourselves. Now where is our Aperol spritz?
