Tottenham ‘in the final stages’ of club-record £75m deal

Tottenham are ‘in the final stages’ of a club-record move for Tanguy Ndombele despite public pressure from Lyon.

Ndombele has emerged as Mauricio Pochettino’s priority signing as the Argentinean looks to refresh a squad that lost the Champions League final to Liverpool earlier this month.

But Lyon cast fresh doubt on the move this week by rubbishing claims it was almost done.

Club president Jean-Michel Aulas even suggested the two clubs were more than £30m apart in their respective valuations of the midfielder.

Despite that scaremongering, the French international ‘could be confirmed as a Spurs player as early as next week’.

A Football.London exclusive from Tottenham correspondent Alisdair Gold says the club are ‘closing in’ on the player and ‘are now in the final stages’ of sorting the deal.

Tottenham will pay an initial £62m, with the fee potentially rising to £75m, shattering their previous club record of £42m on Davinson Sanchez.

Lyon even signed Jean Lucas and are plotting a move for Lille midfielder Thiago Mendes to replace Ndombele, who Gold claims ‘visited the club’s Hotspur Way training complex this week and met with Spurs officials’ after the Ligue Un granted permission.
