From making Prada a household brand to ensuring cerulean was a part of every fashion industry hopeful’s vocabulary, it’s fair to say The Devil Wears Prada has become part of the modern cultural canon.
News of a live action musical came as a happy surprise – but even better was the revelation reported by W Magazine that Elton John would be writing the music along with Shaina Taub and Paul Rudnick.
“Re-imagining The Devil Wears Prada for the musical theatre is super exciting,” John said in a statement. “I’m a huge fan of both the book and the feature film and a huge aficionado of the fashion world. I can’t wait to sink my musical teeth into this hunk of popular culture.”
According to W Magazine the musical adaptation is moving closer to hitting the stage with the announcement that the cast for the first table read has been set. Per the publication, Broadway performer, Emily Skinner, will read Miranda Priestly’s character, and Krystina Alabado will be reading for Miranda’s assistant, Andy Sachs. Miranda’s other assistant, Emily (played by Emily Blunt in the film), will be read by Heléne Yorke.
Adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s book of the same name, we all fell in love with The Devil Wears Prada thanks to the icy glares of Meryl Streep and terribly unfashionable sweaters on Anne Hathaway, and although Streep and Hathaway are unlikely to team back up for the stage adaptation, we are sure this will be a Broadway hit.
That’s all.
