The best street style from Derby Day 2019
Although we’ve witnessed many standout sartorial moments over the course of spring racing season, with attendees putting their best stiletto heel-wearing foot forward at Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day, the Caulfield Cup carnival and The Everest race day, you’d be hard tasked to find a more fashionable day on the field than Derby Day.

Of course, the black and white outfit brief inherently brings an air of elegance to any look, but paired with the penchant of topping it all off with logo-emblazoned designer accessories and fine millinery, Derby Day attendees have proved once again that monochrome in no way has to be monotonous.
And although race goers needed to adhere to a limited colour palette, their play on traditional racewear showed no bounds, letting not even the downpour stop them from getting a little experimental with their looks.
We saw Dior saddle belt bags and micro purses giving the traditional clutch a run for its money, oversized ribbons and embellishment-topped headbands as a highly popular alternative for traditional millinery, playful tiered skirting subbing out all that is simple and sleek, and voluminous sleeves aplenty.
But as expected, given the long-standing heritage of the day, classic wide-brimmed hats, ultra-feminine silhouettes and sky-high footwear remained popular choices, as did elaborate hats and headpieces, which have long remained a staple of any traditional Derby Day look.
Our standout looks? We’re counting Lindy Klim in shoulder-to-toe Dior, Nadia Bartel in beautifully draped Dion Lee, Brooke Hogan in a crisp white Misha Collection skirt suit and Saasha Burns’s stand-out straw sailor hat as some of our favourites from the day.
