Solskjaer sets seven-day deadline on £20m Man Utd signing

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ‘desperate’ for Manchester United to sign Sean Longstaff before the club embarks on a pre-season tour of Australia.

United secured their second signing of the summer in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka on Saturday, following the arrival of Dan James last month.

But a leaked email sent by Ed Woodward to United employees suggested that more ‘exciting players that fit their long-term vision for the club’ are expected to arrive.

Solskjaer is thought to want his squad ready for July 8, when they begin their pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East.

Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star says Longstaff is their next ‘priority’, and that Solskjaer wants the deal ‘completed in rapid time’.

Recent reports claimed United were preparing a £15m opening offer for the midfielder, but Cross says Solskjaer ‘has told’ Woodward to match Newcastle’s ‘asking price of around £20m plus add-ons’.

United had previously been ready to wait for Newcastle to appoint Rafa Benitez’s replacement as manager, but Solskjaer’s demands could see them meet his valuation and offer ‘a long-term deal in the region of £75,000-a-week’.
