Solskjaer: Man Utd need up to three players to be title contenders
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reckons Manchester United are up to three players short of being considered Premier League title contenders after beating rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
There was skill, tension and no little controversy as these bitter rivals met in the top flight for the 150th time, with Pep Guardiola’s men looking to gain bragging rights at a ground that has been so good to them recently.
But the City boss would lose his first Premier League match at Old Trafford as Ederson floundered, having failed to deal with Martial’s superb volley before gifting McTominay the chance to add stoppage-time gloss as the Manchester derby ended 2-0.

The result kept the pressure on fourth-placed Chelsea – who hammered Everton at home 4-0 on Sunday – and Solskjaer reckons with up to three summer additions Man Utd could be challengers next season.
“We feel we are improving all the time. We lack one, two, three players to be considered a title contender and some experience,” Solskjaer said.
On their victory over City, Solskjaer added: “The desire, attitude, commitment, connection between fans and players pleased me most. With all the clean sheets we have been getting it’s impressive, we are getting better.

“At times we pressed them, pushed them back. We tried to be aggressive. We made them make mistakes and we are happy with the result.
“For me it shows we are on the right track and improving and we are Manchester United and looking to catch the teams in front of us. [But] this is one game.”
