Shame On Those Who Think English Is More Important Than Athletics For Hima Das
Indian athlete Hima Das scripted history when she became the first Indian woman to win a gold at International Association Of Athletics Federation (IAAF), World under 20 champions, claiming the top spot in the women’s 400m final race in Tampere, Finland.
However, in India, no matter how many initiatives the government takes to make Hindi popular, a person’s ability to be good at any activity is determined by how fluent that person is in English. While it is important to be good at oral and written English, the most spoken language in the world, to communicate with people of different backgrounds, an athlete demonstrating a phenomenal physical spirit shouldn’t be judged on the basis of a language.
