Sancho reveals George Floyd t-shirt after Dortmund goal

Jadon Sancho revealed a ‘JUSTICE FOR GEORGE FLOYD’ message on his shirt after scoring his 15th Bundesliga goal of the season on Sunday.

Sancho converted a Julian Brandt cross to give Dortmund a 2-0 lead over SC Paderborn, three minutes after Thorgan Hazard gave the visitors the lead.

The England international lifted his shirt to reveal another top with a message of support for Floyd emblazoned upon it.

Sancho made quite the impression on his first Bundesliga start since the league campaign recommenced, being booked for the political message and scoring again in the 74th minute after Paderborn pulled a goal back and threatened an ill-fated recovery.

He completed the first hat-trick of his professional career in stoppage time.

Floyd died earlier this week when a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for more than eight minutes despite the unarmed and handcuffed black man trying to tell him he couldn’t breathe.

The incident was filmed by bystanders and the tragic death of the 46-year-old has sparked protests across the United States as demonstrators are calling for an end to police violence.

The officer who ignored Floyd’s pleas for help, Derek Chauvin, was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter on May 29, while the three other responding officers were fired.

Sancho’s show of support followed that of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram, who took a knee in tribute to the Black Lives Matter movement after scoring against Union Berlin.

Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie also wore a ‘Justice for George’ armband during the club’s 1-0 home defeat to Werder Bremen, while other sports stars have offered their voice, too, including tennis player Coco Gauff.

The 16-year-old posted a video asking “am I next?”, with a caption of “this is why I am using my voice to fight against racism.”

It ends with the message: “I am using my voice. Will you use yours?”
