Porter team up with Parley for the Oceans to go plastic-free by 2019
Porter Magazine, the brother publication from Net-a-Porter, has partnered
up with environmental non-profit organization Parley for the Oceans to
raise awareness surrounding plastic pollution.
As one of the most environmentally damaging sectors in the industry, Porter
has dedicated its Summer issue to highlighting the harm caused by plastic
pollution. Porter’s entire Summer issue is dedicated to championing
content, commerce and cause against plastic pollution.
The issue features an ocean theme throughout, with a 63-page portfolio
featuring a cover shoot of model and Parley ambassador Anja Rubik, shot by
photographer Mario Sorrenti. The issue also features an interview conducted
by Parley for the Ocean founder Cyrill Gutsch with oceanographer Sylvia
Earle, underlining how people can bring around real change.
“We are so proud to partner with Parley for the Oceans and use our
editorial platform to highlight this cause and be able to engage the
powerful medium of fashion to protect our oceans,” said Lucy Yeomans,
Porter’s editor-in-chief in a statement. The environmental campaign is set
to run for two months across Porter.com and its media channels. All content
will be published under the hashtag #PlasticNotFantastic, which calls on
readers to take a pledge to reduce their personal plastic use.
“The fashion community can drive the movement – we can create trends,”
added Rubik. In addition to its new Summer Issue, out June 1, Porter has
taken an AIR Pledge to become plastic-free by 2019. The magazine, which
currently uses biodegradable plastic packing, will begin sending out its
issues in recycled paper envelopes and will continue to do so in the
future.
