Pep Guardiola has backed “incredible full-back” Kyle Walker after once again being omitted from the England squad by national boss Gareth Southgate.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieron Trippier have been selected as the recognised right-backs, with Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori also being handed a first call-up.

Guardiola suggests that Walker should relish the challenge of getting back into the England squad.

He said: “Gareth does what he thinks is best for England,”

“For Kyle it is a big challenge to show how good he is. He remains an incredible full-back.”

Pep was also asked for his reaction to the Football Association’s decision to charge Bernardo Silva with misconduct over his social media post about team-mate Benjamin Mendy, and said: “No comments anymore.”

The Man City boss also confirmed Kevin De Bruyne will not be fit to face Wolves on Sunday having also missed the midweek Champions League clash with Dinamo Zagreb due to a groin injury.

“He is not fit,” said Guardiola. “After the international break he will be ready.

“It is not a big problem.”
