WWE returned to Full Sail University last night for their latest set of tapings for NXT. The tapings featured some major developments which are set to be presented on the show over the next few weeks. Two matches for the NXT Takeover: Phoenix event in January were revealed. According to fans in attendance, it was announced that Bianca Belair will be taking on Shayna Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship. Belair is a rising star in NXT who is still undefeated in singles competition on NXT, and she has been campaigning for a title match for a number of weeks. Belair will finally be receiving her shot at the championship during WWE’s next Takeover event over Royal Rumble weekend in early 2019.

The NXT Women’s Championship match was not the only match that was just confirmed for the next NXT Takeover show. During the tapings last night, it was announced that Aleister Black will be facing Tommaso Ciampa for the NXT Championship at Takeover: Phoenix. Black lost the NXT Championship to Ciampa earlier this year, but he never received a rematch for the title. Black was out of action due to an injury as a storyline to find out who attacked him took place on NXT programming until he was ready to come back. Johnny Gargano was outed as the culprit, but now that Black defeated him at NXT Takeover: WarGames, it looks like Aleister Black is ready to face Ciampa and try to win back the title.

Not only were two championship matches announced for NXT Takeover: Phoenix last night, but there was a title defense during the NXT tapings yesterday as well. Ricochet put his North American Championship on the line against a mystery opponent who turned out to be none other than NXT alum Tyler Breeze. Breeze has been working on the Raw brand lately, but he has sparingly been used ever since his tag team partner, Fandango, went down with an injury earlier this year. Tyler worked on a few NXT live events this past summer, but he will be returning to NXT television for the first time in several years within the next few weeks. Despite the effort, Ricochet was able to defeat Breeze and retain the championship.
