Newcastle player Almiron only stayed due to pandemic, says agent
The agent of Miguel Almiron believes the player would’ve moved elsewhere if it wasn’t for the coronavirus pandemic.
Almiron joined the Magpies in January 2019 for a reported £21 million fee, which was their club record at the time.
He has since made 62 appearances for the side and scored nine goals.

According to Almiron’s agent Daniel Campos, the player was planning on leaving Newcastle before the pandemic prevented him from doing so.
Speaking on Paraguayan radio station Futgol 970 (via Daily Mail), Campos said: “If it wasn’t for the pandemic, he would’ve been elsewhere.
“Perhaps he would like to play on a team that has a lot of possession. Maybe in June, he’ll make that jump.”
The news leaves Almiron in a tricky situation at St James’ Park. His agent has now publicly revealed that his client would like to leave, but it’s unclear whether this will happen any time soon.
Campos went on to say: “In Newcastle, he was entrusted to play a function that perhaps isn’t the one he likes, but he (boss Steve Bruce) knows that Miguel is a multi-disciplinary player. He’s able to play in numerous positions.
“That’s why all the managers have praised him, because he’s a player that, in a game, he can play in two or three different positions. He’ll always have the sacrifice, and the quality that he has is undoubted.”
Almiron is a popular player among Newcastle fans due to his work rate and attacking ability.
The player made a slow start to life in the North East but has now become a first team regular.
So far this campaign he’s played ten times in all competitions, scoring one goal and assisting three more.
Campos also mentioned that Spanish side Atletico Madrid had shown an interest in signing Almiron.
But the financial impact of the pandemic meant they couldn’t afford to submit a bid.
Atletico could return in one of the upcoming transfer windows to try and sign one of Newcastle’s best players.
