New Liverpool signing Harvey Elliott has apologised over a video circulating on the internet in which he calls Tottenham striker Harry Kane a ‘f***ing m**g’.

The video shows Elliott mocking the England international’s voice while watching Kane playing in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

After the video – which included the caption “f***ing m**g” – began circulating on social media on Tuesday night, Elliott issued an apology on his Instagram.

“I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet,” Elliott wrote in a message.

“The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

“I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I’ve been brought up, and I am truly sorry.”

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Elliott on Sunday and has joined from Fulham for what is likely to be a sizeable compensation fee.

The money involved in the deal will be decided by tribunal between the two clubs, with Elliott’s Fulham scholarship having expired and Liverpool’s ban on signing academy players served.
