Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has reportedly contacted Real Madrid star Luka Modric over a massive return to North London.

The midfielder recently revealed how important Mourinho was in taking him to the Bernabeu.

Since then, the Croatian has had a stunning spell in Madrid and has won four Champions League titles.

He also picked up the Ballon D’Or in 2018 for his performances with Real and Croatia in the World Cup.

According to sources in Spain (via Express), Mourinho has now begun talks with Modric over returning to Spurs.

The 35-year-old’s time at Real seems to be coming to an end as they focus on nurturing younger players.

His contract with the club expires in June, meaning he is eligible to organise a deal with Spurs from January.

The signing would be a huge boost to the Spurs squad, as he is an experienced and talented individual.

During his first spell at the club, Modric became one of the best midfielders in the Prem thanks to his stunning vision and work rate.

The North London side already have a quality midfield, with Tanguy Ndombele and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg performing well this season. But Modric would help to add another bit of quality to Mourinho’s team.

The potential signing is boosted by the player’s affinity for Mourinho. Here’s what he has said about the Portuguese manager in the past: “I have a special affection for him, for everything he meant for me. Tottenham did a great thing to appoint him as a manager because he is a proven winner.

“In Italy, England and Spain he won things and he knows how to win. I am hoping he manages to do the same thing with Spurs.

“It’s a great thing for Tottenham to be able to bring in someone like him.”

Signing Modric would represent another one of the old guard returning to Spurs.

They’ve brought Gareth Bale back from Real on loan this season. The Welshman seems to be enjoying his football a lot more now he’s returned to England, although he could still finish his contract in Madrid.
