Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s relationship shows that true love takes many forms. The couple have been making headlines since 2009, when they met on the set of their film The Last Song and shared their first kiss. Their relationship has had some ups and downs, there’s been drama, long distance bouts, rumours, reunions, and of course, that Neil Lane diamond ring.
After they developed what Hemsworth descried as a “really strong connection from the beginning,” the actor proposed in 2012, before the couple split the following year. In 2016, it had become apparent that the pair had reunited when Cyrus was spotted re-wearing the 3.5-carat cushion-cut engagement ring she had received four years earlier.
Finally, it was the loss of their home in Malibu during the devastating California fires in 2018 that saw the pair turn their on-again, off-again relationship into happily ever after. The life changing event inspired Cyrus and Hemsworth to host a surprise wedding at their home in Nashville, Tennessee on December 23, 2018.
“I think in the back of my head I knew it [marriage] was always on the cards, but we weren’t planning to have a wedding anytime soon,” Hemsworth recently told GQ.
“Then just going through something this emotional with someone, it brings you closer and we felt like we’d lost a big part of our lives, so we wanted to make a new part of our lives,” he added. “It was something really good coming out of a horrible situation. It was going to happen eventually, but I think this just sped it up a little bit.”
There is no doubt the newlyweds have developed what seems to be a beautiful love story, and from the looks of it, they are doing just fine in spite of a never-ending stream of rumours that suggest they’re not.
