Meet Gita Gopinath, Born & Brought Up In India, Now New Chief Economist Of International Monetary Fund
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced the appointment of Gita Gopinath as its chief economist. She will succeed Maurice Obstfeld who retires at the end of this year as theeconomic counsellor and director of the IMF’s research department.
Gita has focused her area of research on International Finance and Macroeconomics.

Making the announcement on Monday, IMF managing director Christine Lagarde described Gita as one of the world’s outstanding economists, with impeccable academic credentials, a proven track record of intellectual leadership, and extensive international experience.
