Mane moved to Liverpool as Man Utd ‘lost control’ under LVG
Liverpool reportedly beat Manchester United to the signing of Sadio Mane because the Senegalese forward didn’t want to work under Louis van Gaal.
In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, Van Gaal said he was frustrated by United’s inability to negotiate deals for some of his top targets.
The Dutchman was reportedly interested in bringing Neymar, Robert Lewandowski, Sergio Ramos and Sadio Mane to Old Trafford, and said he was thwarted by the United board.

This has led to raised eyebrows, with United sources telling ESPN that Van Gaal is massaging the truth somewhat.
They claim that Mane refused to enter talks with United as the forward had no desire to play for Van Gaal due to his restrictive tactics and reluctance to encourage flair players.
And although United did make enquiries about Neymar and Thomas Muller, Van Gaal pushed through the signings of Memphis Depay and Bastian Schweinsteiger, despite the reservations of the club.
The sources admit United “lost control” of recruitment during Van Gaal’s time in charge and that subsequent managers, Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, have been forced to rectify those mistakes.
