Manchester United are interested in signing Leicester City defender, Jonny Evans, who is out of contract in the summer, according to reports.

Evans came through the ranks at Manchester United before he made his senior debut during the 2007/08 season.

He inserted himself in Sir Alex Ferguson’s first team in 2008/09. The defender was a regular for United for seven seasons before he left at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Evans joined West Brom for an undisclosed fee in August 2015. He spent three seasons with the Baggies in the Premier League making 96 appearances.

They were relegated at the end of the 2017/18 season, which led to his move to Leicester City. The 32-year-old is at the start of his third season with the Foxes. He has already made 80 appearances for them.

The Northern Ireland international is out of contract at the end of this season. Leicester remain in discussions with him over a new deal, but nothing has been agreed yet.

The Sun have reported that Man United have shortlisted their former defender as a potential signing in the coming months.

The report adds that Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is keen to improve his defence in January, but he only has £20m to spend during the winter window.

A source close to United told The Sun that the club is tracking Evans. They suggest that Solksjaer and Mike Phelan are still big fans of the defender:

“Jonny’s name has come up in conversation.

“There are still a lot of people here who have plenty of time for him – and that includes Ole and Mike Phelan.”
