Man Utd to rekindle interest in £55m man after Barca recovery

Man Utd are ready to rekindle their interest in Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, according to reports in Spain.

Dembele was linked with a move to Old Trafford as a £55m alternative for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho. Rumours intensified on deadline day as Dembele missed training with his teammates.

But neither transfer materialised after Dembele decided he wanted to remain in Spain and Dortmund rejected all offers for Sancho.

Previous reports have claimed that Barcelona were angered by Dembele’s actions as they wanted to sell him to make up transfer funds.

Barca officials aimed to sell the Frenchman to free up money for their pursuit of Lyon’s Memphis Depay.

However, Dembele apparently refused to leave the club as he aimed to force his way back into the first team.

The France international has featured 12 times in La Liga and the Champions League this term, which is already three more appearances in those competitions than last season.

And now Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claims that Barcelona have now opened talks over a new deal after his recovery under Ronald Koeman at the Camp Nou.

Man Utd, though, have now ‘positioned themselves’ to sign Dembele on a loan or permanent deal when the January transfer window opens after his representatives made contact with the Premier League giants.

Dembele’s contract expires in 2022 and with the forward in no apparent rush to sign a new deal at Barcelona, the Catalan club know they could have to accept any good offers for the Frenchman in January.

The Spanish newspaper adds that Dembele is a ‘valuable’ asset to the club but falls short of naming an asking price.
