Manchester United are prepared to break their transfer record for a defender twice this summer to keep Ole Gunnar Solskjaer happy, according to reports.

The Red Devils have been linked with numerous amounts of players this summer but there are a few ‘targets’ that are consistently linked with Old Trafford.

The Evening Standard claims Solskjaer wants to ‘transform his defence’ with the signings of Leicester’s Harry Maguire and Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Those two would likely set United back around £130million with the newspaper considering it ‘a test’ of how far Ed Woodward is prepared to go to back Solskjaer in the transfer market.

Liverpool‘s £75million signing of Virgil van Dijk went a long way to seeing the Reds compete for the Premier League title, while the centre-back was instrumental in their Champions League triumph.

Manchester City backed Pep Guardiola heavily in the summer of 2017 with the acquisition of Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy, with the England international helping his side to back-to-back Premier League titles.

And now Solskjaer wants a similar ‘leap of faith’ from Woodward as he sees both Maguire and Wan-Bissaka as fundamental to his rebuilding job.

The Evening Standard adds that the executive vice-chairman is ‘ready to invest heavily’ in the United playing squad.

United see the Walker’s transfer from Tottenham to City as ‘the turning point’ in fees for defenders – as Jose Mourinho once said – with both Leicester and Crystal Palace reportedly holding out for huge deals for Maguire and Wan-Bissaka.
