Man Utd target Facundo Pellistri has left Peñarol’s “health bubble” amid United’s interest, according to reports in Uraguay.

The 18-year-old has spent the last two seasons playing in the top division in Uraguay with Peñarol. Over the past two campaigns, he has featured in 37 games in all competitions and he has scored two goals.

The winger has already attracted interest from a number of teams in Europe. He had looked set to join French side Lyon until Man Utd swooped to try to gatecrash the deal.

According to a report from Sport Witness, Lyon are still favourites to sign the player, but Man Utd may be a more attractive proposition for the youngster.

Uraguay outlet, Ovacion, have reported that Pellistri has now gone AWOL in attempts to force through a move away from Peñarol.

His parent club are said to be unwilling to let their prized asset leave this window, which is causing the player and his family “great discomfort”.

Peñarol are against letting Pellistri leave immediately this summer, but the player has his heart set on a move away before the window shuts.

The report adds that the player has now left Peñarol’s “health bubble” hoping it will push ahead the transfer. This means that should he can return to the squad, he will have to quarantine before being allowed back into their training facility.

Speaking on the issue, a source close to the club said: “He made an important mistake. He wanted to pull a big Messi and put pressure on us by not training and leaving the bubble in Los Aromos.”
