Man Utd ‘quarantine’ Ighalo over coronavirus concerns

Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo has been told to stay away from the club’s training ground since his move from China, according to reports.

The striker has apparently agreed to keep clear of Man Utd’s Carrington training base for two weeks with the club concerned over the possible spread of coronavirus.

The number of deaths from the virus in China has now jumped to more than 1,350 – from about 1,100 – as senior figures in Hubei province were dismissed amid criticism over the handling of the outbreak.

And The Times claims that Ighalo – who has signed on loan from Shanghai Shenhua until the end of the season – is in ‘quarantine’ and is ‘yet to set foot’ at the club’s training ground.

The report adds that Ighalo has been training but at the British Taekwondo headquarters in Manchester with ‘the chance of Ighalo having the virus is remote’.

The Nigeria international was ‘happy to oblige’ with United‘s requests that he ‘train away from Carrington for the first two weeks of his United career’.

The report make it clear that there is ‘no suggestion that Ighalo has the virus’ with the 30-year-old set to train at Carrington for the first time on Saturday or Sunday before their clash with Chelsea.
