Man United blow Tottenham out the water with €80m proposal

Manchester United have made a ‘substantially higher’ offer than Tottenham for Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has emerged as a primary target for a number of Premier League clubs, with Liverpool also interested.

Manchester City have reportedly withdrawn from the race to sign the midfielder, but United and Tottenham are pushing ahead with their plans.

Both see the 24-year-old’s scoring prowess – he has 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 games for Sporting this season – as ideal to solve their respective creativity struggles.

Portuguese newspaper A Bola offer the latest update on the chase, noting that United’s offer is ‘substantially higher’ than Tottenham’s.

Their initial bid for Fernandes is €70m (£62m), with an extra €10m (£8.8m) in add-ons. That is ‘naturally more appealing’ than Tottenham’s offer of a €68m (£60.3m) single payment.

Spurs ‘could raise a few million more’, but A Bola say it seems more likely that Fernandes will end up at Old Trafford eventually.
