Man City ‘baffled’ and ‘surprised’ by Klopp comments

Manchester City were left ‘baffled’ and “a little bit surprised” by Jurgen Klopp’s latest comments.

In an interview discussing Liverpool’s spending this summer, Klopp suggested that only four clubs can spend constantly in world football.

“We invested money in this team,” he said. “Now it looks like we are not. But we are not in this fantasia land where you just get whatever you want.

“You cannot do it constantly. It looks like there are four clubs in the world who can do it constantly. Madrid, Barcelona, City and PSG. Whatever they need, they do. You cannot compare that. That is the situation.”

The Manchester Evening News report that City were ‘baffled’ by quotes which have ‘given an extra edge’ to Sunday’s Community Shield.

City chief operating officer Omar Berrada said: “We were a little bit surprised.

“Liverpool are a great sporting rival.

“I don’t know why they would make these comments. I don’t know why they would look at other clubs.

“It’s not frustration or anger, we just find it curious that they’d be highlighting our spending. We’re fine with their spending.”
