Mae Young Classic Finale To Be Only 30 Minutes Long

With tonight’s Mae Young Classic finale taking place after the Smackdown tapings tonight and airing live on the WWE Network, the WWE has decided the show will only be 30 minutes long.
It seems that the WWE doesn’t have the faith in the Mae Young Classic that it had in either last year’s Cruiserweight Classic on January’s UK Title tournament. The CWC was stretched out over weeks leading to a live grand finale with the semi finals and final match with TJP and Gran Metalik, while the UK Tournament was given two multi hour shows leading to the finale of Tyler Bate and Pete Dunn. However, this time around the four first round episodes were unloaded in a single day and the rest of the tournament was aired shortly thereafter in four more episodes released on the same day. The Finale is expected to have a red carpet feel to it but seems it will only feature the finals of the tournament with no other matches with the other competitors.
This very well could be another effect of the long rumored issues with 205 not getting the ratings the WWE wanted and a lack of fan’s interest. The troubles for the cruiserweight show have supposedly lead to the planned UK show being delayed for months and several WWE Network shows being canceled in the wake of cost cutting measures.

The Mae Young Classic finale between Kairi Sane facing Shayna Baszler takes place after Smackdown’s tapings and will be followed by a shortened 205 Live! with Rich Swann facing TJP on the WWE Network.
