Liverpool confirm signing of Premier League record breaker

Liverpool have made the Premier League’s youngest-ever player their second signing of the summer.

The European champions confirmed that Harvey Elliott has joined from Fulham for what is likely to be a sizeable compensation fee.

The money involved in the deal will be decided by tribunal between the two clubs, with Elliott’s Fulham scholarship having expired and Liverpool’s ban on signing academy players served.

The attacking midfielder cannot sign a professional deal until he turns 17 in April, but has turned down overtures from PSG, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig to move to Merseyside.

Elliott already has two Premier League appearances to his name, becoming the top flight’s youngest-ever player when he came off the bench to face Wolves in the penultimate game of last season.

It remains to be seen whether he will join the club’s U18 or U23 side next campaign, but Liverpool confirmed he will be part of the squad to face Napoli in a pre-season friendly on Sunday before flying out for the training camp in Evian.

He becomes Liverpool’s second signing after the arrival of Sepp van den Berg. Fan patience is being fully tested.
