Jurgen Klopp admits anyone would want Lionel Messi in their team, but insists their is “no chance” he will be joining Liverpool.

Messi has prompted a transfer scramble having handed in a transfer request, with Manchester City the favourites to sign the Barcelona legend.

When asked about the possibility of signing Messi, Klopp confirmed the club’s financial situation will make the deal impossible.

“Interest? Who doesn’t want to have Messi in his team?!?” Klopp said.

“But no chance. The numbers are absolutely not for us. We don’t even have to start thinking about it. It is all clear – no chance. But a good player, to be honest!”

City have been most strongly linked given the vast backing of their owners and the fact Messi played under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona.

And Klopp admitted: “It would obviously help Manchester City and make it even more difficult to beat them, and it was already difficult. For the Premier League it would be great 100%, having the best player in the world in the league.

“I’m not sure the Premier League needs a boost but it would be one.

“It would be interesting to see Messi in the Premier League. Messi has never played in another league except Spain.

“Football here is completely different. I would like to see it but I’m not sure if I will.”
