When the sweeping romantic epic, Titanic, about the ill-fated ship of the same name hit our screens in 1997, it not only catapulted its stars, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, to a level of Hollywood stardom all actors and actresses aspire and broke box-office records, it also gave rise to one of the biggest movie controversies of all time. Namely, could the movie’s star-crossed lovers, Jack (DiCaprio) and Rose (Winslet), both fit on the door in the tear-jerking scene in the freezing water?
For the more than 20 years since that scene played heart-wrenchingly out with Rose (Winslet) atop what seemed like a huge double-sized door, while Jack (DiCaprio) clung onto the door from his position in the freezing water, the world has wondered if, in fact, he could have just joined her on the door giving their love story and the movie a very different, happy, ending.
Until now, the 44-year-old Oscar-winner has never spoken about whether that door could have held him as well (surely it could have fit them both if they spooned?). But in a recent MTV interview with his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-stars, Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt, when the question of the Titanic door came up the actor finally addressed it, in a way.
ET reports although the majority of the interview was focused on the trio’s upcoming flick, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, MTV did segue into the Hollywood archives asking DiCaprio whether or not he could have fit on the door. According to ET, Robbie jumped in saying that watching the scene when she was a kid had her “bawling” her eyes out while DiCaprio responded with, “I have no comment.”
Pitt then weighed in saying he was going “to go back and look now [at the scene].” The 55-year-old then reportedly suggested to DiCaprio that he could fit, saying “Could you have squeezed there? You could’ve, couldn’t you?”

DiCaprio, sticking firmly to his original answer, reportedly reiterated his no comment. “No comment. Like I said, I have no comment.”
So, while we still don’t have a definitive answer on whether he could have fit on the door, thereby changing the course of Jack and Rose’s story and the film’s ending, DiCaprio’s “no comment” does suggest that there is definitely something to this theory.
