Lampard informs Derby of his final Chelsea decision

Frank Lampard has told Derby he wants to take the Chelsea manager’s job if it is offered.

Lampard is the odds-on favourite to replace Maurizio Sarri, who was officially unveiled as Juventus head coach on Sunday.

The legendary former midfielder, who won three Premier League titles and a Champions League at Stamford Bridge, has reportedly been promised two years to settle at the club by Roman Abramovich.

The owner’s absent father act makes this an uphill task, particularly for such an inexperienced manager, but Lampard seems eager to take the opportunity.

The London Evening Standard say the 40-year-old ‘has told Derby he would like to join Chelsea’ if the chance presents itself.

Derby attempted to open negotiations to extend a contract that expires in two years, presumably to increase the expected £5m in compensation Chelsea would have to pay for him.

But Lampard informed Derby of his ‘desire’ to return to Stamford Bridge if possible, with the Blues ‘not put off’ by either the cost or his relative lack of experience.

It would be quite the emotional divorce.
