Jurgen Klopp has urged critics of his Liverpool youngsters to avoid making comparisons between them and “world class players”.

The Reds boss has used a number of youngsters this season, including Curtis Jones, Rhys Williams and Neco Williams, with Liverpool suffering from a number of injuries.

They have fitted in well in most cases but Klopp has warned fans and pundits to avoid comparing them to the players they are replacing.

Klopp told reporters: “If someone is a youth or academy player at Liverpool, he has for sure a lot of talent.

“When you come up and make the final step for the first team, that’s a different animal.

“I think the boys did that really well. They have helped us enormously. The only problem they have from time to time, is that people compare them with the guy who played the position before them.

“They are – in our case – all world class players. That makes it difficult for people to see clearly how talented these boys are.

“From my point of view, they did really, reall well.”

Meanwhile, any club in tier two of the Government’s new regionalised system for tackling coronavirus are allowed crowds of up to 2,000 once national lockdown restrictions end on December 2.

And Klopp is looking forward to welcoming back some fans at Anfield, he said: “As a player I never had more than 2,000 supporters probably.

“Since I worked as a coach there have been more in a stadium. I am happy for the 2,000 lucky ones who get the chance to see live football again after all that time but I have no experience with 2,000 supporters at Anfield.

“It’s really not about us or the advantage we have with that or disadvantage. It’s a nice sign that these things are possible and I hope that it is just the first step. That is my biggest hope.”
