Justin Bieber is only 25 years old but has already lived the life of someone double or even triple his age. Achieving worldwide fame, a legion of fans and more money than most people would earn over a lifetime at such a young age had a huge impact on the I Don’t Care singer. And, as he shared in an emotional essay on Instagram, it turned out that impact, in many ways, was not positive, especially in how he handled his relationships with loved ones (which presumably includes his ex Selena Gomez) and in regards to his own mental and physical health.

“It’s hard to get out of bed in the morning with the right attitude when you… are overwhelmed with your life, your past, job, responsibilities, emotions, your family, finances, your relationships. When it feels like there’s trouble after trouble after trouble,” Bieber posted on Instagram. He then gives details of how he had “a lot of money, clothes, cars, accolades, achievements, awards” and yet he still felt “unfulfilled”.

The 25-year-old then asks readers if they have seen the “statistics of child stars and the outcome of their life”, writing that there is “insane pressure and responsibility on a child who’s [sic] brain, emotions, frontal lobes (decision making) aren’t formed yet.”

Bieber writes that he didn’t grow up in a stable home and went from a “13-year-old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world.” The singer shares that he started to believe the hype and with everyone doing “everything” for him he “never learned the fundamentals of responsibility”.

The singer goes on to detail that by the time he reached 20 he’d “made every bad decision” and went from being “one of the most loved and adored people in the world” to “ridiculed, judged and hated”. He confesses these “ups and downs” combined with the “dopamine rush” of being on stage was hard to manage and he started doing drugs at 19. He also shares that he “abused all of [his] relationships,” presumably referencing his relationship with Gomez, who he had been dating for a number of years by that time. However, around 2014 the couple reportedly hit pause on their relationship and it sounds as though it was a result of what Bieber was going through at the time.

The singer further writes that it’s taken him a long time to “bounce back from all these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships, and change relationship habits.”

The singer ended the essay on a positive note talking about his marriage to Hailey Bieber. “Now I am navigating the best season of my life “MARRIAGE”!! Which is… an amazing crazy new responsibility. You learn patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility and all of the things it looks like to be a good man”. Read the full post, below.
