Inside the David Jones spring/summer 2019 collection launch
On the evening of September 4, David Jones’s Elizabeth Street flagship store stayed open after hours to celebrate the arrival of its new spring/summer 2019 collection, dubbed ‘On the Bright Side’.
Giving attendees an interrupted look at the latest womenswear, shoes, accessories and beauty that the Sydney store has to offer, this was also an opportunity for many media, celebrities and valued customers alike to get their first peek at the completion of the newly-renovated womenswear floors as part of the store’s AU$200 million flagship redevelopment.
While weaving their way through the store, guests had a number of photo moment installations and interactive activities at the ready, with DJs including San Cisco’s Scarlett Stevens (AKA DJ Beryl Streep) and David Jones’s menswear ambassador, Tom Derickx bringing the ‘Bright Night’ spirit to life through music, and eclectic performance artists, The Huxleys, bring the shine and spectacle.
And while shoppers browsed on the racks, it was more than likely that the looks they were mentally adding to cart also made an appearance on one of the five ‘roaming runway’ shows that traversed the four newly-opened floods, giving them a chance to see their potential new wardrobe in action.
But while the mass-scale redesign and store-wide entertainment was enough cause for celebration, the 181 year-young department store still gave customers yet another reason to clink the champagne glasses that were circling throughout the evening.
In addition to the celebrated designers that already call David Jones home, including Carla Zampatti, Camilla and Marc, Aje, and Bianca Spender, the store announced that it would also be exclusively housing a number of newcomer international brands of the likes of Toni Maticevski, Roksanda and Tibi.
Reiterating our excitement for what’s to come in this new stage of the department store’s lifespan, David Jones General Manager of Womenswear, Bridget Veals, reminded us of why they are still the premium destination for womenswear.
“Bright Night marks a major milestone for David Jones with the unveiling of our Elizabeth Street womenswear offering,” she said in a press release. “This season alone we have introduced over 65 new womenswear brands and completed our four womenswear floors. Tonight is about celebrating the completion of our incredible offering and we are delighted to be bringing our SS19 Collections Launch runway to our customers in store.”
We’re not sure about you, but we’ve had our credit cards at the ready the second we stepped into the store.
