Inside Princess Madeleine and Christopher O’Neill’s 2013 wedding

When Princess Madeleine’s previous relationship ended, she moved to New York City, not knowing it was there she would find true love with a British-born Manhattan banker named Christopher O’Neill. The couple became engaged, and a glamorous wedding was held at Slottskyrkan, the chapel at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, on June 8, 2013.

The bride wore a Valentino gown as she arrived at Slottskyrkan, the swarming cameras snapping every angle of the pleated silk organza and Chantilly lace dress. For a headpiece she wore a previously unseen diadem.

As is customary at Swedish weddings, the bride and groom walked the aisle together, but in a loving tribute, Princess Madeleine was escorted halfway down the aisle by her beloved father, King Carl XVI Gustaf.

Upon their marriage, O’Neill declined the offer of a royal title, as he wished to live as a private citizen and continue his work as a financier.
