Jurgen Klopp says he’s “not picky” as he reiterated the need for Liverpool to try and find centre-back cover in the January transfer window after beating Tottenham 3-1 on Thursday night.

Spurs were the perfect opposition for Liverpool to kick-start their Premier League campaign against as this was a seventh successive win against them, though came at a cost as Joel Matip suffered ankle ligament damage.

Klopp has conceded that he might be forced into the transfer market for a new defender following Matip’s injury, which came after Fabinho also went down before the game with a muscle injury.

“You can imagine that we think about everything,” Klopp said after their victory over Spurs. “Of course, we thought the whole time, we think the whole time. It’s about doing the right thing.

“I’m not picky or whatever but we need to find the right player. We have players still, not a lot to be honest in the defence line. It’s incredible what’s happening, really incredible. But yeah, that’s it.”

On the win, Klopp added to BT Sport: “Yes I am [delighted]. It was a great game, super intense as I guessed before the game. We scored goals in the right moments, wonderful goals, the right people scored the goals so it was all good apart from Joel Matip. It looks like something serious with Joel, to be honest.”
