How China’s military parade will showcase a country seeking regional dominance
It will be the largest military parade in Chinese history.
Thousands of troops and hundreds of tanks, missiles, and aircraft will march, roll, and fly across Beijing on Tuesday as the Chinese Communist Party marks the the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the People’s Republic.
“They will go-all out to demonstrate military capability and promote Xi Jinping as president for life. He will want a parade par-excellence,” said Malcolm Davis, senior analyst in Defence and Strategy capability at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
China is engaged in a rapid military modernisation programme that has seen it swiftly catch up with, and in some areas already overtake, the United States.
