Home Alone, Cheaper by the Dozen and Night at the Museum are getting remakes thanks to Disney

Disney is on a remake and reboot roll at the moment. Many of its beloved classic animated movies including , , and have either been recently released in live-action format or have versions in the works. And, the response and reception to these new iterations has been incredible from both fans and critics alike. 

According to , (featuring Beyoncé as Nala), surpassed US$1 billion at the box office less than three weeks after it was released into cinemas. Disney is clearly onto a winning formula.

With this in mind, it makes sense that the company would look further back into the film archives to find other classics to remake and reboot with a fresh, 2019 twist. reports that during a phone call with investors earlier this week, Disney chairman and CEO, Bob Iger, announced they have a number of other reboots and “reimaginings” planned for a slew of family favourites including , , and .

According to the publication, the new iterations will be content for their forthcoming streaming service, Disney+ — a service slated to launch in the US in November and in other regions, including Australia, possibly the following year.

While no further details about the remakes are available yet, noted that once the news dropped, the internet immediately had some strong opinions about the remakes, wondering how any remake could live up to the original.

One Twitter user noted that the remake would be a pretty short one thanks to 2019 technology, writing: “The Home Alone Remake is going to be a 1 minute short film The parents realize they left their kid home alone and then call him on his cell phone and find out he’s fine.”

On the other hand, these movies are so beloved and the characters so familiar, Disney giving them a second life is another way to enjoy more screen time with our favourites.
