UNITED GETTING CLOSER TO MAGUIRE MOVE
Today is the day when Manchester United fly off to Australia – with or without Paul Pogba. It also marks the deadline set by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by when he wanted the bulk of Manchester United’s transfer business done. So far, Ed Woodward has only managed to get two signings through the door.

Any deal for Sean Longstaff may be more complicated than Woodward presumed given Newcastle are supposedly looking for £50million for the rookie midfielder with only nine Premier League appearances to his name and no other notable suitor.

Harry Maguire should be a more simple deal. The England defender seems to be keen to move to Old Trafford and United are aware of Leicester’s demands. Whether Woodward meets them is another thing.

The Daily Star reckons United are creeping closer to giving the Foxes what they want. Apparently, United will offer £90million for the 26-year-old who will triple his wages to £250,000 a week.

The Sunday Mirror believes Leicester would settle for £85million – but only in cash. United are reported to have this week offered £70million plus Marco Rojo but, understandably, the Foxes have told Woodard where to stick it.

The same paper reckons Woodward is about to close one deal – that which will see David De Gea recommit to United for the next five years on terms of £350,000 a week. Reports in Italy suggest the United vice-chairman is set to discuss a possible move for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with the Lazio midfielder’s agent.

ARSENAL BACK TO FAFFING OVER FRASER
Arsenal too are scrambling around for reinforcements but unlike United, the Gunners have good reason to be scrimping.

Unai Emery is trying to rebuild his team on a bodge-job budget, which seems most unlikely to stretch so far as to furnish the Emirates with Wilfried Zaha. So Emery is turning his focus back to Ryan Fraser.

The Bournemouth winger has only a year remaining on his contract and the Sunday Mirror reckons Emery sees Fraser as a cheaper alternative to Zaha. The report suggests Bournemouth “have little but to sell… probably for around £20million”.

That contrasts with the noises coming out of Bournemouth earlier in the summer. Back then, Eddie Howe was looking for £40million for Fraser and if such an offer wasn’t forthcoming, then the Cherries would prefer to retain the Scotland international for another season before parting next year. Fraser himself admitted last month that he didn’t know what was going on.
