Gossip: Man Utd to buy Dier while Spurs make huge upgrade?
DIER DEAL FOR MAN UTD
Here’s an underwhelming start to your Saturday, Manchester United fans: Eric Dier is the latest midfielder to be linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.
The Times reckons the Tottenham screener is among the candidates being considered as an upgrade on Nemanja Matic. Declan Rice has been linked with United for months but, apparently, the Red Devils reckon Spurs might be more open to doing business than West Ham.
Perhaps they should consider why that is. Dier was restricted to 18 Premier League starts and only two in the Premier League due to injuries, poor form and the fact Mauricio Pochettino preferred Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks in midfield.
SPURS PLOT MASSIVE MIDFIELD UPGRADE
If Daniel Levy pulls off a double deal for Bruno Fernandes and Tanguy Ndombele, then Dier’s departure will barely register with Tottenham supporters.
Reports in Portugal suggest Spurs have moved ahead of Liverpool and United in the race for Sporting Lisbon midfield Fernandes, who scored a ridiculous 32 goals and offered 18 assists last season.
The Sun claims a deal for Lyon enforcer Ndombele is even more likely. Lyon apparently want £70million but Spurs reckon there is a deal to be done at around £50million. Given the competition for the 22-year-old, that seems unlikely.
REAL’S POGBA SWAP PLAN
Paul Pogba must be concerned by what’s going on at the Bernabeu. With £150million-plus already spent on Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard, Real Madrid are reported to be looking at Christian Eriksen as a cheaper alternative to the wantaway United star.
Pogba may find some solace in reports from The Mirror this morning that Real are looking at more creative ways to bring him to Spain. They probably can’t afford the £130million United want in a straight cash transaction – but they are more than willing to send Gareth Bale to Old Trafford in part-exchange.
The report doesn’t say how Real will get around the fact Bale has three years remaining on a deal worth over £500,000 a week, only that a swap might be possible ‘if an agreement can be reached over his mega contract’. Which tells us nothing we didn’t already know.
