Get ready kids, Kristy, Stacey, Mary Anne, Claudia and Dawn are heading to Netflix!
The streamer is betting big on the ‘90s nostalgia trend which is running hot at the moment, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting Netflix has officially signed on the dotted line to produce a “contemporary take” on the beloved best-selling ‘90s book series The Baby-Sitters Club written by Ann M. Martin.
For anyone who didn’t read at least one of The Baby-Sitters Club books growing up, the novels follow a group of friends who set up a babysitting service called The Baby-Sitters Club in their hometown, a fictional place in Connecticut called Stoneybrook. The club members—Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Dawn and Mary Anne—start off aged around 12 and the books detail the trials, tribulations, relationships, friendships and growing pains of being a teen, while also running a start-up with your best gal pals.

The book series was incredibly popular and became such a pop culture phenomenon many teens started their own babysitting clubs when the books were at peak popularity during the late ‘80s and all through the ‘90s. The characters also resonated to such a huge extent, fans of the series would identify themselves as a “Kristy” or a “Mary Anne” or one of the other main characters.
The series has had one attempt at a small screen adaptation, a one-season TV series that ran on HBO in 1990, and it was also adapted into a comedy-drama film in 1995. And now Netflix is giving it new life with a confirmed straight-to-series order. Read on for everything we know so far about Netflix’s Baby-Sitters Club TV series.
According to(THR) it has been described as a “family-friendly” adaptation of the book series that will “tackle themes around divorce, racism and belonging in a series geared for kids, teens and adults.”
“The themes of still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released, and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs,” Netflix’s Melissa Cobb said per . Cobb added, “Our ambition is to contemporise the storylines and adventures of this iconic group of girlfriends to reflect modern-day issues.”
Per , there will be 10 half-hour episodes of the series in season one.
So far no casting news on who will play the lead characters of Kristy Thomas, Claudia Kishi, Mary Anne Spier, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schafer, but Variety reports Clueless star Alicia Silverstone has been cast to play Kristy Thomas’s mum, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer. Silverstone’s character’s love interest, Watson Brewer, has also been cast, with Mark Feuerstein set to take on the role.
