Chelsea star decides it would be ‘very wise’ to stay

Andreas Christensen is no longer thinking about leaving Chelsea this summer after playing a more active role during the run-in.

The Denmark defender had suggested that he might look to quit Stamford Bridge after failing to break into Maurizio Sarri’s first XI. Nipping to the toilet during a defeat at Arsenal did not help his case.

But injuries allowed the 23-year-old to play in five of the Blues last seven Premier League matches while Christensen started all 15 matches during Chelsea’s successful Europa League campaign.

That involvement has made the centre-back reconsider his plans to look at his option.

Christensen told the Evening Standard: “I’m not wondering about my future now and I haven’t done that for some time.

“I’m happy to be in London and, with the way the season has evolved, there’s no reason to think about it anymore.

“I’m only 23, so it’s probably very wise to stay. It’s nice that there is peace and quiet and I can concentrate on playing football.

“I have always been happy but there have been times when I wanted to play more.

“If I can play as much in the future as I have done in the spring, then that’s fine.

“The end of the season has really been as good as it could. I got a lot of playing time and we ended up winning a trophy, so it couldn’t be better.”
