Trentino Diatec – ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle 3:0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22)
It was the direct duel between two leaders of Pool C. ZAKSA seemed to be prepared well to challenge the four-time club world champions and showed it on court from the first whistle of the referee. In every set the same scenario: game point for point up to a tie around the 20th point and then a few strong serves from Trentino’s side, bad reception of ZAKSA and efficient blocks of Italians.

Antonin Rouzier and Jan Stokr were the best players of the duel. Stokr (nominated the MVP of the match) scored 19 points, including 1 personal ace, 4 blocks and 54% on the net. Rouzier made 21 points, including 2 aces, 5 blocks and 54% in attack.

In general Trento beat ZAKSA in block 12-7 and attack 59%-51%, ZAKSA had better reception (42% of pos. reception – 35% of Trento) and scored 6 aces, while Trento “only” 4.

“This win was very important for us” said after the match Stokr. “It was the first defeat of the season for ZAKSA, so our success become even bigger. Tonight we wanted a victory more than they did and we were able to finish the match in 3 sets”.

Sebastian Swiderski, the assistant coach of ZAKSA, said: “We made mistakes handling easy situations, Trento served very well and we suffered a lot the lack of our libero Gacek, even if the young player Kapelus did his best. I am sure that next week it will be a completely different match, more balanced. We need to be patient and braver, when playing against teams like Trentino there is no time to have fear.

Crvena Zvezda Beograd – Tours VB 0:3 (21-25, 13-25, 18-25)
The result of the second match in Pool C decided who would take the 3rd position in the classification. In the whole match there was a noticeable advantage of the French team. The “red star” from Beograd fought well only in the first set. In consequence, they are placed at the end of the standings with no points and win-lost sets balance 0-9.

The best players of the match were Dusan Petkovic and David Konecny. Petkovic scored 17 points: 2 blocks and 36% in attack. Konecny made 15 points, including 4 aces, 3 blocks and 35% on the net.

Overall, Tours was better in every element of the game. Block 15-6, attack 41%-30%, positive reception 67%-63% and serve 9-4.

Dusan Petkovic said: “I think that, regardless of the result, we shall have played better. We did not use our chances and did never show our real potential. Tours VB is a very experienced team and we did not find any solution to control their serve. I hope we will play much better next week as we go to France for the return match”.

Stanislav Simin said: “We did expect more resistance from Crvena Zvezda especially after watching their previous matches against Trentino and ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle but I think they were surprised by our aggressive start”.

The return matches will take place between November, 21st and 22nd.
