Carragher picks out one Arsenal player for special praise

Jamie Carragher was “impressed” by Bukayo Saka’s performance in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw on the road at Manchester United.

Saka broke into the Gunners’ first team last November and has already made four appearances in all competitions this term, including two Premier League starts.

The 18-year-old provided the assist for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s controversial goal as Arsenal claimed a point at Old Trafford.

And Carragher thinks Saka should be “really proud” of his performance against the Red Devils.

“He gets his assist. What I love about what he does is he reads and smells the danger,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“Watch his reaction, he thinks ‘something could happen’ and he’s making up ground to press Lindelof.

“Then to actually produce the weight of pass into Aubameyang. I thought he was really good tonight, I was really impressed with him, I was impressed in the European game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

“To come in at 18, away at Old Trafford in an Arsenal team that aren’t playing great and isn’t a great team, that role he had, not just in the goal but throughout the game, he can be really proud of his performance tonight.”

Carragher added: “The biggest compliment you can give him is that he took [Nicolas] Pepe off when he could have brought the young lad off. 18, Old Trafford away from home but he takes the big money signing off.

“He was actually involved in physical battles and he’s willing to go at them. I saw him for the first time against Eintracht Frankfurt, he looked dangerous and aggressive, he was unfortunate to come off against Aston Villa because of the red card.

“The composure and the quality to make the pass to Aubameyang but also the understanding to sense danger for Manchester United. We always talk about defenders sensing danger but sometimes it’s the attackers. He was there to close down Lindelof, he knew something was going to happen, and that shows he has gained intelligence.

“He should be really proud of his performance and well done to the manager, it’s a big thing to select an 18-year-old away at Old Trafford.”
