Arsenal full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles is the subject of interest from Premier League side Brighton, according to reports.

The Englishman has started three matches since lockdown for Mikel Arteta’s side, including victories over Manchester City in their FA Cup semi-final and their final day 3-2 win over Watford.

The Athletic claimed back in March that that Maitland-Niles turned up to Arsenal training late on several occasions under Mikel Arteta with the new head coach frustrated at the right-back’s failure to match his standards.

And the same publication reported a couple of weeks ago that Maitland-Niles ‘has come to the conclusion that the writing is on the wall for his career at Arsenal’.

That seems to be something a report in the Daily Mail agrees with as he ‘ponders his future’ at Arsenal with Brighton ‘interested’ as they hope to back up the signings of Adam Lallana from Liverpool and Dutch defender Joel Veltman.

Maitland-Niles has three years left on his contract but he’s searching to be a regular starter at the Emirates Stadium.

Arteta is believed to be ‘an admirer’ of Maitland-Niles but the 22-year-old could have a ‘big decision to make’ if he isn’t afforded enough minutes on the pitch.
