Becky Lynch Says She Battled Depression Before Joining WWE
Becky Lynch recently spoke to People about her rise in WWE. “The Man’ went from working the pre-show of WrestleMania 34 to winning the main event of WrestleMania 35, just one year later. But Lynch’s career before WWE nearly fell apart, thanks to injury.
Lynch talked about that time of her life, when she was forced to get out of the business. Becky took a six year break, from 2006 to 2013 and it seemed as though she would never realize her dreams of being a successful pro wrestler.

“When I stepped away from it I just, I suffered from depression and always felt like I turned my back on this thing that I loved and this thing that has given me a purpose,” she recalls. “I always felt like there was a part of me would fix it, and that part of me was this.”
However, Becky did say that she felt that period of her life actually benefitted her in the long run.
“I’m really grateful for those years,” Lynch adds to PEOPLE. “At the time it was hard to see where it was going to go. Looking back I’m so grateful because I wouldn’t be where I am without having stepped away. And I also, want to have the appreciation that I do without it.”
Lynch won the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships at WrestleMania 35 after pinning Ronda Rousey in their match with Charlotte Flair. It was Rousey’s first WWE loss and marked the first time that women have went on last at WWE’s biggest event of the year.
