Barcelona furious as Manchester United steal young talent

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Marc Jurado from Barcelona for little over £1.3m.

Jurado, the 16-year-old right-back, is considered one of the best current talents in Barcelona’s famed development system.

Having spent almost a decade with the club, it was expected that he would commit his future in the same way teenagers Ansu Fati, Ilaix Moriba, Gavi and Ilias have in recent months.

But Jurado wants ‘to try the English adventure’ and has rejected an improved financial offer from Barcelona in favour of a move to Manchester United.

The player came to the decision ‘after several weeks of negotiations’ and will link up with his new club’s youth side in the summer.

Spanish outlet SPORT suggest that the prospect of playing at a slightly higher level in England was a motivating factor, stating that Jurado ‘had exploited this season in Cadet A’ and Barca ‘had foreseen that he would continue doing so in Juvenile B’.

Manchester United, however, will offer him the chance to work with the U18s and perhaps even the U21s ‘if his performance is as expected’.

The setback ‘has not gone well’ with the hierarchy at Barcelona, who are unhappy at one of their youth systems ’emblems’ being tempted elsewhere.

For Manchester United, it could represent another move towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s transfer ideal of young talents being nurtured at Old Trafford.

Diogo Dalot could leave for Tottenham this summer and Jurado might eventually fulfil that same role as back-up to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
